Healthy Juice Central  Newsletter June 2007 -  Vol II

Greetings !! We hope you are doing well this summer and not neglecting your committment to a healthy lifestyle. We are here to encourage you and help you do just that.

In this newsletter we want to focus on balancing your diet with juicing. We do not advocate only juicing but rather encourage a balanced diet and supplement that with juices for specific requirements, staying healthier, feeling good or just for pleasure, taste and fun. We also have a cooling, easy to make, recipie of the month for the summer and some juicing tips you would not want to miss.

Eating well and Juicing smarter

It is never too early or too late in life to learn good and balanced eating habits. While juicing is a wonderful supplement and even a detox agent (Click here for Detox related reading) we would encourage you to eat a well balanced diet always.
  • Remember that small meals taken regularly are better than long periods without food, followed by a heavy meal.
  • Large rich meals late in the night should be avoided if possible, more so for elderly folks. Digesting a cooked meal in the middle of the day is easier on your body.
  • Make sure you drink plenty of fluids. Water & Juices ! Check our water therapy section for the water part of it and our resourccful website for the juicing part of it.
We cannot start to write down the benefits of water ! It is the source of all life ! You will proabably notice that we repeat  the importance on water with every newsletter. (Click here for Water Therapy related reading) Having said that, for most of you healthier eating will simply be a matter of adjusting and balancing of what you already eat and drink. Here are a few tips on that.
  • Eat more fiber in the form of fruit, vegetables and whole grains. Yes, we want to be honest that juicing alone will not give you this important component for good digestion and balancing your juicing diet.
  • Cut down on fat. Choose lean meats & fish, drink skimmed milk and grill rather than fry foods.
  • Eat less whites, particularly cut down on sugar and salt as much as possible. Choose low calorie drinks and unsweetened fruit juice. Try not to add sugar or salt to your juices, drinks, cereals etc. Avoid adding salt to your cooking where possible.
  • Instead of cakes, buscuites, sweets or chocolates, try variety of fresh fruits or unsalted snacks as many times as possible.
A well balanced diet combined with plenty of fluids (water & juices) definitely helps promote healthy skin, body and a  sharp and alert mind.. It would be incomplete if we do not digress and mention that restful spleep, relaxation, and a stress free lifestyle definitely complements all of the above. Easier said then done in todays fast paced world, but it still is a choice that we can make every day.

Juicing Smarter - Tips you don't want to miss out on
The beneficial nutrients contained in freshly made juice definitely outweighs the ones in the frozen juice. However with a busy schedule it is understandable that many people would like to store juices by freezing them. If you do decide on freezing your juices we would recommend a few steps.
  • Freeze the juice as soon as it is made in an air tight container. Air is one of the primary factors that will cause degradation of the juice, so be smart and store the juice in a container that will fill to the top. Air is about 20 percent oxygen, so more the space in the container, chances are it will "oxidize" and damage the juice.
  • Wrap the jar with dark opague material or aluminum foil to block out all light. Light damages the juice.
  • Juice an extra lemon into your juice for the citric acid that may help preserve the juice.
  • Start out with the cold produce, to ensure your juice is cold.
  • Try not to store the frozen juice for more than 24 hours.
  • Use organic produce if possible.

Juice the pineapple, mango, pulp of the passion fruit and oranges. Kids love this recipe, its any day better than high sugar tropical juices found in the store. Rich in Vitamin C and A. If you are not using organic produce peel the pineapple before juicing to avoid the pesticides on the skin.

Ingredients:
  • 10 oz pineapple

Preparation:
Enjoy this refreshing summer tropical  drink served with ice.
